August Favourites

The weird weather month that was August is almost over and that means two things. One that our annual Makers Month is nearly here again and two that is is officially Autumn, my favourite time of year. Lets dive in to some more things I have been loving over the past month

I have been loving this home made granola that I saw on Lily Pebbles blog/vlog. I have never been keen on shop bought cereal, and although I like porridge and granola, it is expensive and usually has dried fruit in, which is not my fave. I have been making myself a batch once a week and having it for breakfast and an occasional snack too.

I have been spending a lot of time on everyone's favourite Pinterest recently, trying to streamline our blog account and build up my shop account too. Head over an follow our blog account or Sew Crafty  too keep up with all the best crafty pins.

In between pinning sessions I have mostly been chained to my sewing machine and I have been loving it. I have been working on a super secret project which has kept me pretty busy, but I hadn't realised how much I missed sitting and sewing.

To anyone who has followed this blog for a while will be aware of addiction to stationery, in particular stick notes, well this month is no different and some of my fave places ( Paperchase and W H Smiths ) are doing a great job of keeping me in supply of really cool note taking equipment.

Hope you are all looking forward to a epic bank holiday weekend, Have a good one what ever you have planned.

Favourite Five Jumper DIY'S

I know, I know it's August and I am talking about jumpers, it all feels very wrong, but honestly it has been not so summery over the last week and so my mind just can't help but drift to my autumn wardrobe.  I have been picking out a few pieces from my wardrobe lately that I love, but just need a little - something.  I turned to my favourite fashion diy-ers for some inspiration.  These are my five picks that I will be adding to some of my jumpers to give them a new lease of life ready for the autumn months. They are all easy and great to do in an afternoon, maybe something to plan for the (no doubt rainy) bank holiday weekend?

Have a good weekend, I really hope it is too warm to actually wear your jumpers, but if you do, now you can make it look fabulous!

July Favourites

Monthly favourites time again! July has been very different for me as I have actually had some time away with no internet or phone reception  -  it was not fun for me. Lessons learnt that I am not good with un-voluntary internet withdrawal. It did mean that I had a chance to read a couple of books which appear here so I suppose I can't complain really.

I am so late to the party with this one but if you haven't yet picked up a copy of #GIRLBOSS do it now! If you are a small business owner or not, if you like sassy girls who have done well for themselves,s then this book is for you.

Accessorize new nail polish range, particularly the packaging, Totally in love with these little potion bottles with rose gold lids. Pixi glow tonic is also a new fave, it has improved my skin so much over the last month.

I have owned a Filofax for years, mostly using it as an address book. It wasn't until I discovered the intense planner community online earlier this year that I looked again at my trusty six ring binder. The fact that I can combine my love of paper crafts and keep a better track of all the crazy parts of my life is a winning combination for me. I have a Mint A5 Domino for my diary and daily to do's and an original lilac A5 for projects and notes.

MrKate.com is my new Youtube /blog obsession! I love this trendy/kooky DIY fashionista. Who wouldn't! She and her team make great DIY, interiors and fashion videos. This girl boss also has her own jewellery line and a range of temporary tatts that are to die for. #newgirlcrush

I am in a DIY frenzy over here, getting lots of projects off my desk to make way for some big announcements from Sew Crafty over the next few months, keep your eyes peeled you will hear all the news here first. Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Don't forget to tell us your favourites in the comments below.

June Favourites

Now I know I say this every month but seriously, time flying when your having fun doesn't even cover it! So here are the things that have been floating my boat this month.

May Favourites

May has been a long month, I have had a lot going on and it has been the little things that have made such a difference. If months have colours, for me the colour of May has by far been mint, literally can't get enough of it, as you will see in my selection of favourites.

You all know by now that I am an Essie fan-girl but I may have a new favourite.  I found this range called 'Lottie London' in my local Superdrug recently and I am in love with their collection of nail polish.  My favourite by far is the shade Stay Cool, a beautiful grey lilac, closely followed by Retweet and Spring break. I feel a few more purchases coming on...

This pen holder thingy from Tiger just makes me so happy, it seems a little silly and pointless, but I think that's why I like it so much. And it's minty green/blue colour pop on my desk doesn't hurt either. On a more serious note, my YouTube subscriptions list has become crammed full of vids about planners recently, particularly the lovely Strange and Charmed's Alexis. She makes great planning videos and has some amazing tips and advice for business and productivity too.  She Also has a kick ass Blog, head over and show her some love, tell her I sent you <3

I am still enjoying my Messy box subscription that I reviewed at the beginning of the month and this time I added some extra bits to my delivery in the way of some ink pads and these Messy Pens. I love them and can't stop writing everything with them. My favourite is the 'fine' one, which is about 0.8 if you buy regular fine liners, but it is so much better, the nib is slightly soft and the ink flows so nicely. Well worth having them shipped.

My Stationery obsession continues, I seem to be building quite a collection of cute sellotape dispensers all of a sudden. I love them! These are all by Scotch who make my all time favourite double sided tape too so it must be a sign. Check out my favourite glues and tapes in my post from last year. I even bought a blue version of the pink one for H because I just couldn't resist.

Do you have a stationery obsession? Link me up to your favourite items in the comments. Do you follow any planner addicts online? Tell me your favourites, I can't get enough.

February Favourites

Monthly favourites time again and this month is an odd bunch I will admit, but worthy all the same.

My strawberry slicer, I know a lot of people will say its a silly gimmick and that I am perfectly capable of chopping my own strawberries, but anything that gets me excited about eating fruit for breakfast is a winner with me.

The powerhouse of blogging that is Dana aka The Wonder Forest has a second blog all about blogging (I can Build a Blog), which I have been a fan of for a while now. When Dana started a YouTube channel last year I was an instant fan. I have been catching up this month and loving her no nonsense advice. I'm just not sure if I am brave enough to put our blog up for review but I love the advice she shares about being a better blogger.

I picked up this shade of nail polish when I was at Bicester Village last month, not because it was Michael Kors, but because I LOVED the colour. Envy is the perfect Pink/Purple shade with a great formula and a stubby flat brush, Yum!

Accessorize always hit it out of the park with pretty stuff for your tech and this season is no exception.  I was torn between the golden pineapples and this Flamingo... as you can see the flamingo won.

Finding these little beauties in my fave stationary place Fox and Star was a game changer, MT Nano is a handy gadget you use to make neat cuts in your washi tape. It's the little things.

How was your February? What have been your favourites? Are you loving a TV show? Anyone else loving the new season of Suits? Let me know in the comments below.

Have a great weekend, but pop by on Sunday for a little competition....

Cosy January Fashion Favourites Wishlist

1. Sports Direct snow boots, 2. Divergent by Veronica Roth. 3. Dorothy Perkins Sparkle socks, 4. New Look Kimono cardigan, 5. Forever21 Plus Aztec hoodie, 6. New Look Grey tote bag, 7. Forever 21 Bib necklace.

I don't know about you but I am so busy in December that I never find time for reading, so January is my month for sitting cosied up in bed and getting thorough a couple of books on my Kindle. I actually got a paperback copy of Divergent for Christmas, so I am looking forward to getting stuck into a real book for a change. Wrapping up warm is a must here in the UK, Snow is on it's way and I want to be ready. I am in love with these Sports Direct bargain versions of this winters 'it boot' from Sorel and the Aztec hoodie from Forever 21 +. I am so excited that they are now doing a plus size range! Another favourite for January is this statement necklace also from Forever 21, it would bring a splash of warmth to any winter outfit, They have a great range of statement necklaces.

How do you like to stay cosy and warm in these non-festive winter months?

We are away on holiday at the moment, we will read and reply to all of you comments when we get back

*New* F.A.Q.

As we have been writing this blog for two years now, we have accumulated a few 'Frequently Asked Questions' so we have added an FAQ tab to the top of our blog.

We thought we would share it with you today

How Long have you been Blogging?
Three and a half years!

Do you have any advice for new bloggers?
Blog about what you love, your passion will come across in you writing. Use spell check, I (Sammy) am really bad at grammar and punctuation, Luckily I have H to check my posts. Take interesting photos, you don't need a fancy camera, but make them well lit and fun!

Do you take all the photos for your blog and if so what camera equipment do you have/use ?
The majority of the photos you will see on our blog are our own. Sammy has a Canon 5D and a 60D and H has recently bought herself a Canon 1100D after borrowing Sammy's for a while. Photography is a semi profession for Sammy as she used to (and occasionally still does)  photograph weddings and  is a passion for both of us. If we use anyone else's photos we will always give credit.

Can I use one of your Photographs on my blog?
As long as you link back and credit us

Can I use one of your posts on my blog?
If you would like to feature us on your blog, make sure you link back to our blog and give us credit please, and of course let us know so we can tweet to tell our readers to take a look at your blog <3

Do you follow other blogs, If so which ones?
Yes, lots! You can see our blog feed in bloglovin and check out our favourite blogs in this post.

Can I interview you for my blog/Magazine?

Can I write a Post for you?
Yes, we love to feature guest posts from other bloggers and designer/makers. Email usliveit.loveit.makeit@gmail.com and we can discuss it further.

Can you write a post for my blog?
Yes we are always happy to contribute to other blogs/magazines if we feel the subject is relevant to our  experience as crafters and our lives. Contact us in the usual way liveit.loveit.makeit@gmail.com
We have been featured in Reloved Magazine, Mollie Makes, and Pretty Nostaligic in 2014

Can you review our product/service?

What's a typical day like for you?
A typical day, wow, this one is tough.  Like most people I would think it changes so much.   I work in a Museum called The Lightbox  in the Learning department and so it can vary between School visits or school holiday activities, adult workshops or community work with hospices, homeless charities and local disability groups.  I wake up around 7.30-8am daily (I can't even sleep in at weekends these days) and walk the 20mins to work.  It's quite nice being able to walk to work as I feel a little more ready for the day.  I usually buy my lunch on the way and so that's that part done already for the day.
If we have a school visit it is normally in the morning and so it's making sure everything is ready and then its a whirlwind 2 hours of taking them around the Gallery or showing them how to make something, such as Shrink Plastic or dioramas.  If it is during the School holidays then its making sure the studio is ready for the afternoon session (we do 4 workshops a week during the holidays).  Which basically means all craft materials and equipment is out and ready for the kick-off later.  Adult sessions can be morning or afternoon, it's just where we can fit them in really, there are only 2 of us and one studio so sometimes it gets a bit busy.
Then, when those sorts of things are done, its making sure Volunteers are booked for visits/workshops, working on future projects, making sure we have all the equipment we need for these workshops, checking emails and all those other things that need to get done.  I would say I spend 80% of my time running sessions and then the other stuff happens around it.  When I leave around the 5.30pm mark (this is very rare to be this early) I walk home, sometimes via the supermarket to get tea.  Then its home, tea, a bit of TV, maybe fire up the old laptop and then pass out, shattered.

Where do you live?
I live in Woking, Surrey.  It's a bit of a change from my previous life of 4 years in London.  But it's close to work and only about 30mins from Waterloo for catching back up with my London life.  I have also lived up north when I was at Uni, in Hull and Lincoln and of course in Reading when we were at College.  I wonder where I will end up next?

You work with kids, do you enjoy your job?
I do, I think I have a mind of a child as I love to experiment and have fun, more than the actual outcome.  I love showing children how to make stuff and so I think I have (finally) found my perfect job.

What's your favourite food to eat?
This is sooooo hard, I LOVE food and it's so difficult to choose.  I think though I would say Spaghetti Bolognaise as its proper comfort food and so easy to make.  For pudding, I will ALWAYS order Bannoffee Pie if it's on a menu!

What's your favourite food to make?
Really simple things like Spaghetti Bolognaise as above or my version of Eton Mess:  Strawberries or Raspberries with Yogurt and Ginger Nut biscuits crunched up, yum, yum, yum.

What shops do you like?
Again, like Sammy, Dorothy Perkins and New Look have to be in my life. I also love Joy Clothing ( in London and on-line) and Oliver Bonas if I am feeling flush.  I love a bit of a bargain aswell and so love H&M and Debenhams for good Sale items.

What your favourite craft?
Anything that involves me making something personal for a friend.  I love trying new crafts but currently its paper cutting or printing.

Sammy...
Height: 5'4''             Age:32
Hair colour: Brunette, sometimes more purple than anything       Marital status: Happily Married

What's a typical day like for you?
On a work day Monday-Thurday and Saturday, I usually get up about 8.30 am (it's a struggle, not a morning person) and get to my shop Sew Crafty for 9.30 am. I usually have an order to put together, or a rep to see, or an order to put away in-between serving customers. At Lunch time I usually pop up in to town, maybe sneak in to the worlds smallest Newlook or Dotty P's to check out what's new before heading back to the shop to eat my lunch. The afternoon is normally paperwork, Vat returns, or filing again whilst serving our lovely customers. Usually helping out Textile students with their projects (probably my fave customers) by which time it is 5.30pm and time to head home. I feed the cats and catch up with Steve whilst I cook our dinner, which we eat usually whilst watching a movie. then it's up to the craft room to write a blog post or make some thing pretty. I am a night owl so bed time isn't usually until late/early opps!

Where do you live?
I  live in Maidenhead, a  medium sized town in Berkshire, about 45 mins outside London. I grew up here, I lived in Reading for three years when I was at college then moved back to run Sew Crafty with my Mum 10 years ago.

Any plans for kids?
Someday...

What pets do you have?
We have a ginger and white tom called Bailey and an itty bitty black and white girl called Stella

Do you take commissions for drawings?
I'm sorry no, I just draw for fun.

What shops do you like?
We are a little limited in Maidenhead for shops, but I like Newlook, Dorothy Perkins, Accessorize, Our local art shop Bovilles and we have a wicked Thai shop that does a mean green curry. On-line I like Asos, Oasis, River Island mostly high street, any place that does Plus size clothes and of courseEtsy.com

What your favourite craft?
Too many to choose from... but I would have to say customising clothes and paper-crafts.

Any more questions, Email, tweet, comment or ask us on Facebook.
