Hidden Treasures: Frock & Roll

We found this little Gem of a shop when we did our Live it Vintage event way back in 2012 and since then it has given H the excuse to go back for visit after visit.  Many a wedding outfit has been bought and alterations still to be finished in the wardrobe - what is it with me not finishing clothes?!  This visit resulted in a 1960's skirt purchase, but no alterations required! yey.

Frock & Roll is tucked a little bit out of the way in Reading and so you definitely need to know it is there to make the effort to walk up to it, so it definitely fits our hidden treasure category.  But if you work at the hospital or go to the University of Reading you will be right around the corner and if you love Vintage, you will make the effort.

When you go in there is just row after row of Vintage treats on offer, from men's attire through to women's, skirts, dresses, tops, coats and of course all the accessories to go with.

There is a large array of Jewellery as well to go with your outfit and so something for everyone.

You can peruse all the clothes at your leisure and there is a changing room and dressing area set-up so you can see colours and styles.

All in all, Frock & Roll is a treasure trove of all things Vintage and they do go to events too and so if you can't make it to the shop, you could see them at an event.  Thanks to Ali for once again making it impossible to leave without buying something!

Am off to see what I can put with my new skirt.

Now, I am sure you all know by now that we both love Vintage - after all we did do 'Live it Vintage' event last summer in Sammy's hometown of Maidenhead.  I particularly love a Vintage Dress and have a few for events coming up, not too many details though as I want to keep them a surprise!

There is nothing quite like finding a beautiful Vintage dress that you love, but then there is of course the added problem of it fitting like a glove and for those of us who are a little on the larger side, those outfits are much harder to find.  For those of you who don't want to alter something to make it fit, there is always the Vintage Inspired dresses out there and whilst I was reading Vintage Life magazine the other day, I found a company which I thought I would have to share.  Mainly due to falling in love with one of the dresses - now just where to wear it!

and my particular favourite dress is here, can you guess what colour?

The great thing about these dresses is that they are not too pricey.  One of my bugbears is that when you put the name Vintage to something, it instantly becomes expensive.  You can get the look of the 1950's without breaking the bank and I am all up for that.

Where is your favourite place for Vintage inspiration?  Let me know in the comments below and we will go take a look.

Love it

Live it. Love it. Make it. What a year 2012

This year has had chaos, panic and some grumpiness but show me a year that doesn't! Above all else though its been fun and this little blog has kept us both going, even with some quieter moments.

We thought we should share some moments with you that really stood out!

The time we did a Bunting workshop for the Craft Coop pop-up shop in Maidenhead in the summer and then Kelley sent us this lovely picture of her daughter with her finished bunting.  Kelley got married recently too, so congrats!

For me it was my niece being born, and in this picture we give another great achievement this year, the Olympics a mention!  She is so cute and although I have lots of friends with children, a few who were born this year too, there is something about having a niece that is so so special!, loves her, xxx.

There was quite a few 30th Birthday parties this year and of course Sammy had to celebrate in style with a sweetie bar and a rainbow cake!  It was the BIGGEST cake I have ever seen!  We have established that we are best friends and that we are never getting rid of each other and I think this blog of ours cements that, so it makes it all the more special and shows how much we like cake!

We accomplished quite a few firsts this year, this was a picture from our first workshop with the Craft Coop, back in March, wow time flies, I can't believe that this time last year we hadn't met all you lovely Chicks! Deborah, Teresa, Anna, Yolande and the rest of you, we feel so privileged to call you our friends.

As H said it has been for myself and a few of my friends, our 30th year, one of the best parties has to be our friend Kelly's Barbie party, I am biased as I was involved in decorating the venue, but it was genuinely one of the best nights, so many giggles!

One of our best memories of the year has to be 'Live it Vintage' the event we put on in the summer. We are still a little surprised that we managed to get Sammy organised enough to run an event, but then I  have been doing it for years so I knew we could pull it off. Again I think the best thing that came out of it was the friendships that we gained. Carly, Laura and of course Anna in particular have become like members of the Li.Li.Mi family, love you guys.

Roll on 2013 then and check out any of our other posts from the year if you managed to miss anything!

Live it.  Love it. Make it forever!

Link for the week: Vintage Christmas Jumpers

This week's link is once again a Chrsitmassy one, which I can't quite believe as Christmas spirit is lacking for me me this year!  But for everyone else it should all be about the Christmas Jumper and the Guys over at Frock & Roll have it covered! This Vintage Christmas Jumper is a winner.

H was lucky enough to buy an amazing 1980's blue dress from this shop last week and of course they took part in our Live It Vintage event last summer, so they are all round good guys in my book!

So check out their Christmas Jumper selection and get your geek on this Christmas!

Love it: Live it Vintage

I can't believe it was three weeks ago that H, Anna, Carly and Myself stood on an empty Maidenhead High Street at 6.30 am with butterflies in our tummies, waiting to see if our first event would be a success!

Our team had done all we could, months of planning had come down to one day...What a Day!!
There was sunshine and rain (the torrential kind) singing and dancing, furniture and clothes, Hair and make-up, cakes and buns, photography and cars, a fashion show and a dance lesson. We could not have hoped for a better day. Our traders were all lovely, our performers professional and our visitors happy.

Live it Vintage Thank you

We just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU for you all coming out to the Vintage Fair in Maidenhead Town Centre on Saturday 4th August.

We animated the town centre and had some great feedback on the day. Despite the wet weather in the morning and a short downpour in the late afternoon, the weather did us proud in the end. We are so happy that you were all able to join in with the day and buy some goodies, dance in the street or have your hair and make-up done!

A larger post will come soon, but this is a big Thank You in the meantime!

With Live it Vintage love

Live it Vintage

We are super excited here at Live it. Love it. Make it HQ this week, we have some very fun announcements to make! Here goes number one!
Some of you will know already, but today we officially announced 'Live it Vintage' to the press,  so now we want to officially announce it to you, our lovely blog followers.

Live it Events is a non-profit organisation, which put on events to help communities grow. We want to help local companies and organisations get exposure to their local community, whilst having loads of fun! Due to the Olympics last being held in the UK in 1948 and the Queen’s coronation in 1952 we find ourselves in a celebratory mood and one that brings out our Vintage side. Maidenhead is a busy town this summer, not only is the lovely Dorney Lake one of the Olympic sites for Rowing, Kayak and Paralympic Rowing events; Kidwell’s Park is also hosting a Live Site for everyone without those special tickets to come and take in the Olympic games on home-turf. With all these extra people in town to cater for and the chance to show off the Town’s talent, the idea of celebrating this once-in-a-lifetime event was born.
The Live it. Love it. Make it girls, Thumbelina Design and Penny Farthing decided - with a little help from our Town Centre friends - we would get together to bring ‘Live it Vintage’ to Maidenhead.

Live it Vintage is all about bringing vintage style to the residents and visitors of our High Street.
On Saturday 4th August all manner of Vintage traders and activities will take centre stage in Maidenhead Town centre for ‘Live it Vintage’ from 10am through to 5pm. It will take the form of a market spread through the town centre and the Nicholson’s Centre with entertainers, make-up artists and Vintage Vehicles all taking part. You can have your hair done in a Vintage hair roll, listen to some retro music or just take a wander around the various stalls to see what goodies you can take home with you. The Wayward Sisters will bring their ‘Vintage red lips and victory rolls with milk and honey harmonies’ to the event and Kav Kavanagh’s Royal Rockers will have you Jiving down the High Street.
Don’t just believe us when we say it’s going to be amazing, the Town Centre manager for Maidenhead, Steph James says “Maidenhead is going to have a real buzz over the summer with a packed programme of events to celebrate Jubilee and Olympics. The local creative community in Maidenhead has been getting behind the town and putting together a fantastic array of events for the High Street bringing arts, crafts, fashion and entertainment to the town”
Here’s what one of our organisers Samantha Claridge has to say about the event “ Maidenhead is my town, I have grown up here, I live here, I own my business (Sew Crafty) here, I want Maidenhead to be a great place for people to come and enjoy. Vintage seemed a logical choice, with the town already boasting its own Art Market and Craft Pop up Events. Live it Vintage is not just a Vintage Fair, it will offer fun and entertainment for all ages”
