Make it. Dalmatian Spot Trainers

Zebra is out as the black and white animal print of choice, guess what is in?? That's right my revelation of once owning a pair of dalmatian print trousers was apparently just an admission that I was years (15 years) ahead of fashion. Dalmatian print is THE animal print of 2014. So today I am DIY-ing a pair of, don't panic, not trousers, but the far more acceptable outfit update, trainers.

The best thing about dalmatian print is that it doesn't have to be neat and tidy, irregular splodges are the way to go with this one.

You will need: A pair of white trainers, black fabric paint or good quality acrylic paint, a paint brush or sponge, some tissue paper, some black bias binding or ribbon for laces.

Firstly you will need to remove the laces (keep them to one side if you want to put them back in) then stuff your trainers with the tissue paper. Squidge out some of you black paint onto a plate or like me a scrap of freezer paper, then dip your brush into the paint and make your first spot.

If you are nervous start with the tongue of your shoe as it will be mostly hidden when you replace the laces, so you can practice on there.

Make your spots varied and random, different sizes and shapes, check out Google for inspiration for spot shape and size if you are unsure. Keep going until your trainers are covered in spots.

The next bit is boring, leave them to dry overnight.

When they are completely dry you can pop your laces in. I chose bias binding because you can fray the edges out to give a tatty look. Take out the tissue paper and cut the ends of your binding or ribbon at an angle and thread them through the holes.

There you have them, your very own Dalmatian print trainers.
