Make it: Wedding mini bunting

I thought it about time I did something a little Wedding related for those Summer brides out there.  I only have one wedding to go to this year, which is a bit of a departure for me and so why not share a little DIY for those brides trying to keep it simple with this mini bunting for a cake or just a little decoration.

You will need: Scissors, paper, bakers twine, paper straws, glue stick, craft knife, pencil, sharpie or other pen in whatever colour of your choice.
Step 1:  Make a template of your bunting if you prefer, or just draw on the back of your paper, two triangles connected to each other by the top/bottom.  You will need as many as you have letters and for the & symbol.

Step 2:  Cut out all of your bunting and start to write your letters on the bottom triangle, I am trying to get better at nice handwriting and so this was a nice practice for me.  There were many test pages before I decided on the final font style!  I used a sharpie as the paper had a slight sheen to it, so I wanted it to stay in place.

Step 3:  Layout the name and see what kind of spacing you will want on the twine to make it nice and even.

Step 4:  Then glue each bunting piece over the twine in place.

Step 5:  Then when each line of your bunting is done, layout the name and so you can see where you will want it to attach to your straws.

Step 6:  Make knots in each end of the twine as then this will help them stay in place for the next step.

Step 7:  Using the craft knife, cut into the straws where you would like your bunting to sit, you could mark with a pencil.

Step 8:  Push the end of the bunting line into the straw using the craft knife, the knot will help ensure it stays inside the straw without popping back out.

Your done, this is such a simple little DIY and one you could do for parties, weddings or just for fun.  It's so cute and you can change the colours and font style to suit the type of event it is for.

Are you going to any weddings this year?  See if you can spot any crafty makes?  I always love seeing what people come up with and whether they have been glued to Pinterest since they got engaged!

Now, those sweets are making me peckish!

Always the Guest

Someone commented to me this week that I know so much about Weddings I should write a book. Now this may be that I have been to 32 of them - yep that's right, I am seriously not kidding; it could be that I used to work as an Events Organiser which included co-ordinating weddings or that as a blogger I see alot of fun stuff like cake and decorations, alot of the time.

When I was thinking about what to post this week, I was thinking back on my September, which as a frequent wedding goer, was probably the most weddings in one month I have ever been to.  All the weddings I have been to have been amazing and to see two people so in love on their wedding day is definitely something to enjoy.  Obviously it's all about the food for me really!  Only kidding.

The first wedding I ever went to was in 2002 and so I didn't have that childhood memory of being a bridesmaid in a pretty dress.  But I have picked up a few things along the way too, including alot of dresses, which although I have never been married myself, I hope will be useful.

1. Venue
Pick a venue you love, I know that money is always going to be an issue, but if you love it, your guests will love it, you will love the photos in 20 years time at it and you will be glad you really thought about it and made it work for you.

2. Pick what's important
You might want to spend more on the dress, more on the venue, more on the food.  But whatever it is, find out what you think is more important for you, not anyone else.

3. The food
If you love it, have it.  Simple as that - don't worry about what others may or may not like. Also included here is the cake!  I mean you know I had to talk about cake right!  Make it special, make it you, make it tasty.

4. Don't sweat the small stuff
I have been around many a bride and all I know is that on the day, nothing else matters apart from you and your partner.
5. Photos
Get a good photographer and perhaps a Videographer as then when you start to forget what actually happened on the day (cos you will, it will go so quick) you can get that DVD on.  Nothing is worse than realising you haven't got pictures you want either.  So invest.

Weddings really are a personal thing and so by no means is this me telling you what to not do or to do, just go with what you really want and it will be the day you want.

Looking forward to the next batch of invites!

Live it: Milestones

2013 is a big year for me, I am celebrating lots of milestones, both professional and personal.
Later this month it's going to be two years since H and started writing Live it. Love it. Make it, last weekend was my shops 10 year anniversary, in September it will be 15 years since I met H and October marks my 5th Wedding anniversary and 8 years to the day that I met my lovely Steve, also it will forever be the year I said goodbye to my lovely Grandpa.

Our blog turns two this year, we have so many plans, goals and ideas for the future.
H and I in Essex April 2011, just one of many photos of the two of us from almost 15 years of friendship.

It was seven years at Christmas that we moved into our now home at 3 High Street and last weekend it was 10 years since we were handed the keys to the Sewing Centre.

Steve and I on our Wedding Day October 2008. We met online, our first date was on the 19th of October 2005, Steve asked me to marry him on the 19th of October 2006 and two years later on 19th of October 2008 we became Husband and wife. I remember a girl in the pub we were in on our first date asking how long we had been together, she was shocked when we said a couple of hours, she said, you look like you were made for each other.

My Grandpa and I when I was little, on Holiday in Swanage. He passed away in March this year at the grand age of 92, he had had a long life and it was just his time but I still miss him everyday.

I am so thankful that H and I started this blog, it has been such a lovely way to share our lives, all our milestones and goals that we have achieved. The support we have had and all the new friends we have made, it has been really special. We are looking forward to many more exciting experiences in our future.
What Milestones do you have this year, are you getting married, having a baby or celebrating an anniversary? We would love to hear about them.

Link for the week: The Blogcademy

This weeks link might just help some of you who are bloggers yourself!

H was at a wedding at the weekend and it turns out so was Kat from Rock n Roll bride! So I thought I would share with you the link for The Blogcademy she is a part of and of course her own website. We can only wish she came to our little vintage event in the summer, but she couldn't make it unfortunately.

They have had to add a second set of dates to their Blogcademy as the first lot sold out! Well done girls!

Love it

Live it Weekend

We are having a 'Live it' weekend!

So... My lovely Heather is, as we speak, enjoying the muddy goodness that is Glastonbury. I am expecting a post of epic proportions come next week. I however have a weekend of Asian Delights to enjoy.

My Tuesday lady's (by that I mean Azra who comes in to work in my shop on a Tuesday so my Mum can have a day off) Daughter is getting married on Sunday, I do love a good wedding! My Mum and I have been invited to the Mehndi Party on Friday as well. I am so excited to see all the amazing outfits and all the Henna painting, it promises to be a lovely evening.

Also soon I hope to show you a sneak peak in to my sewing room, I call it this, despite the fact that my sewing machine is currently taking residence on my dining room table, much to the annoyance of my long suffering Hubby (Love Him) I am Lucky enough to have a room in my home that I can call my very own. It houses my fabrics, my crafty goodies and my dressing table. So soon I will be giving a little tour in to one of the homes of Live it, Love it, Make it.

Hope you have a 'Live it' weekend too xx
