Check this out: We Built this City

Now you may have seen on Instagram a few weeks ago we took a look at this shop when we were in London.  We Built this City is a souvenir shop with a difference!

It showcases all that is good about London design, whether that be illustrated maps of London, chutneys made in London kitchens or designers who have their studios in London.  It means that tourists to the very popular Carnaby Street where the shop is based, can have a very different souvenir experience to go back home with.  Or, of course, people can just get cool stuff from the shop wherever they are from.

I particularly love a print and the print wall made me want to plaster my flat in them.  The designers work on display is fresh and interesting and will give people a different view on what makes London great.

If you are able to go to the We Built this City shop it is at the further end of Carnaby street, near Beak Street.  If not, get someone you know to have a look for you and post it up!  ha, ha.  Or, you could have a look at the artists individual websites once you have found them on the We Built this City site.  Anything to help designer/makers.

Is there anywhere near you that we should take a look at?  We love to find new designer/makers and shops full of fun things, so let us know in the comments and we can go have a look.

Check this out: Alice's Adventures Underground

For this month's Check this out, we go deep underground to find Alice!  Alice's Adventures Underground is based in the underground vaults beneath Waterloo station and is immersive theatre by the guys at Les Enfants Terribles.  You, the viewer get to have the adventure, not Alice!

I really want to go to this, so I thought if I put it as one of my posts, I might actually get around to it.  I have friends who have been and said it's pretty cool and of course they don't want to tell me too much, plus everyone has a slightly different adventure as you go through the experience.

I love the description on their website "Journey down the rabbit hole to gorge on cakes that will have you bumping your head on the ceiling, smoke a pipe with the Caterpillar as he tells you his psychedelic tale and take tea with the maddest of Hatters; all whilst trying to avoid losing your head at the hands of the fearsome Queen of Hearts."

Sounds fun, right!

Check this out: Craftacular

From Left: Necklace from Rodology, Necklace from Promises Promises and Brooches from Frilly Industries
We are having a bumper crop of activity these past few months and now it's time for the Summer Craftacular in London by Bust Magazine this weekend on Sunday 17th May.  Bust magazine is from America and so it's bringing the cool edge over to the UK.

Another outing really just means that it's more time for us to go shopping and see some of our favourite crafters and of course find some new ones along the way.

Our favourites will of course be there, from I am Acrylic and Claireabellemakes to one of our favourite magazines Mollie Makes of course.  We can't wait to sample the treats of the pop-up cafe from Drink, Shop & Do aswell, of course.

H has picked out a few of the new people she wants to find on the day.  Are you going? Who are you looking forward to seeing?

Check this out: Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty Exhibition

Picture sourced from https://fashionworked
This month sees the opening of the much awaited Alexander McQueen exhibition at the V&A, Savage Beauty.  We seriously cannot wait!  The tickets sold out in record time, but a few weeks back they allocated some more tickets and so we were first in line!  We do however need to wait till May to go, but are looking forward to it so much already.

We are both big fans of McQueen's work and so fingers crossed it delivers and with all the people who will be going to see it, fingers crossed we can actually see the items on display as this will be the first and largest display of his work in Europe.  The exhibition was shown at the Met in New York in 2011 and was one of their top 10 most visited exhibitions, not too shabby hey!

Are you going to see the exhibition or is there an exhibition coming up that we should check out?  Let us know in the comments below.

Check this out: Sketch

Way back last November we went along to Sketch in London for a little treat to ourselves and so I thought we should tell you all to go, it was amazing.

If you have not heard of Sketch, it is a restaurant in London famed for it's lovely food and unique decoration.  There are a few different eating and drinking areas to Sketch and all are decorated differently. The Gallery where we went is currently decorated by David Shrigley of greeting card and forth plinth fame.  The plates, salt and pepper pots and menu's were all decorated with Shrigley's unique style with around 239 new works adorning the restaurant walls.

The food really was lovely and we are planning on going back for afternoon tea soon as it looked so good.  Definitely a place for a special occasion or just a treat, why not!  Also if you follow them on Facebook, there is currently an offer to get £50 off your bill until the 1st March 2015 for Lunch or dinner, no Afternoon Tea unfortunately.
